SOCI 2340 - Sociology and Art

What does art, film, music and literature tell us about society? This interdisciplinary course examines the contributions of art and literature in an effort to illuminate the human experience from a sociological point of view. Students examine film, art, music, poetry, etc. in an effort to better understand the following themes and segment of our population: living in poverty; immigrants and up rootedness; inmates and the corrections systems; racial and gender minority experience. Tough regular observation and discussion about these various forms of visual, audio and/or written expressions, students will examine how artwork manifests the social, political, and economic realities in which the artists share with the larger world. Grading Basis: Letter Grade Repeatable for credit: No
