POLS 3322 - Mock Organization of American States Competition

The focus of this course is comparative and international politics through the lens of various countries in Latin America, in preparation for competition in the Eugene Scassa Mock Organization of American States. Students will be assigned a country in Latin America to study and research. Students will prepare a position paper and research from the perspective of their assigned country on important international topics such as refugees, climate change, human rights, international trade, and narcotrafficking. Mastery of parliamentary procedure and the OAS rules of debate will prepare students for competition with other students in the ESMOAS Summit of the Americas. Students will compete in the ESMOAS Summit of the Americas with students from other universities in the Americas and Caribbean, and network with former ambassadors, OAS and foreign service officials. This course may be repeated for credit.
