The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is a degree designed for candidates seeking initial teaching certification in Texas. Candidates are required to have a bachelor’s degree. The MAT combines an intensive study in pedagogy. The MAT provides candidates with one of the following certification options:
- Elementary with an additional certification in ESL
- Elementary with an additional certification in bilingual education
- Elementary with an additional certification in special education
- Secondary (4-8 or 7-12) Mathematics, Science, ELAR, or History certification with an additional ESL certification
- All Level certification in Music, Art, Physical Education, or Spanish with an additional ESL certification
