SOCI 6303 - Social Theory 3 hrs This class offers an overview of social theory, with particular emphasis on sociological, political science and economic theory. Specifically, we will discuss: 1) What are the roots of contemporary scientific and social scientific theory? 2) What major themes and thinkers make up the foundation of contemporary thought? 3) How were these texts shaped by the social context of that time? In other words, how do these writings reflect the broader social and economic thoughts of that time period? 4) How do these texts influence social scientific theorizing and analysis today? Finally, how to frame theoretical constructs for community practice and problem solving. Offered: Fall.
