EDUC 4345 - Literacy Development and Instruction: EC-12

Exploration of literacy development from the acquisition of language to critical thinking skills. Emphasis on diversity, differentiation, and assessment tools and practices in effective literacy instruction, including Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Emergent Bilingual (EB) Learners, Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS), multicultural literature, supporting instruction for students with dyslexia and other reading disorders. Introduction of mini-lesson planning, instruction, and videotaping of strategies of Science of Teaching Reading standards (STR), UDL, EB and MTSS lessons. 10 hours of field experience required in a reading program.
