Social work is concerned with the transactions between people and their social environment, with the relationships among individuals, and with the relationships between individuals and social institutions. Professional social work practice has the following generic purposes:
- Helping people accomplish life tasks, alleviate distress and realize aspirations
- Planning and developing social policies and programs necessary to meet social needs of diverse population groups
- Advocating policies and programs through participation in the political process
- Developing professional knowledge and skills
The Worden School of Social Service offers programs accredited by the Council on Social Work Education leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work. The requirements for the Master of Social Work degree can be found in the Graduate Catalog.
