Biliterate Emphasis in Bachelor’s Degrees Certificate

The Biliterate Certificate prepares undergraduate students to use the Spanish language in professional settings related to their area of expertise. The ability to function professionally in Spanish, as well as in English, opens up opportunities to work and serve in bicultural/bilingual communities.

Total credit hours required to complete the Biliterate Certificate Program (BCP):

27-30 semester hours depending on major

Requirements for the Biliterate Certificate (All Majors/Minors):

SPAN 1411 - Elementary Spanish I 4 hrs *
SPAN 1412 - Elementary Spanish II 4 hrs *
SPAN 2311 - Intermediate Spanish I 3 hrs *
SPAN 2312 - Intermediate Spanish II 3 hrs *
SPAN 3301 - Advanced Spanish Grammar, Reading, Composition I 3 hrs
SPAN 3302 - Advanced Spanish Grammar Reading Composition II 3 hrs
SPAN 3328 - Professional Oral and Written Communication in Spanish 3 hrs
Psychology majors may take PSYC 4311 instead of SPAN 3328
SPAN 4160 - Biliterate Certificate Program Capstone Project 1 hr
SPAN 4342 - Biliterate Certificate Program Practicum 3 hrs
OR a course in the student’s major that provides a practicum or learning experience opportunity in a Spanish-speaking setting.

One of the Following: 3 hrs

SPAN 3312 - Civilization and Culture of Latin America 3 hrs
SPAN 3313 - Civilization and Culture of Mexico 3 hrs
SPAN 3373 - Spanish in the United States 3 hrs
SPAN 3311 - Civilization and Culture of Spain 3 hrs
