18 semester hours
Through graduate level certificate programs students learn the multiple determinants of health and the interconnectedness of physical, social, and environmental aspects of community health, such as the impact of discrimination and policies on the health of communities. Courses will provide an in-depth look at the interrelation between health patterns, the forces that give rise to them, and attempts to improve health through healthcare policies and practices.
These programs prepare graduates for careers in multiple areas of health and medicine, including public health, clinical practice, community and metro health, healthcare policy, administration and management, as well as making them competitive applicants for continuing medical education and career promotion. These certificates will add considerable marketability and social scientific value to graduate students. Students in many disciplines can benefit from having this certificate on their resume: Sociology, Biology, Social Work, Business, Management and Health Care Management, Psychology, etc. Through these programs students will have an edge in employment and promotion in health related fields while also enabling practitioners to do their jobs better.
