This degree prepares students for a career teaching music at all levels. Students are prepared for the TExES Music Exam, the state exam for teacher certification in music.  

Professional education hours fulfill the minor requirement.

Music Major Scholarships: Students intending to apply for Music Scholarships must audition prior to July 15. Contact the Head of the Music Program to schedule an audition.

Advanced Ensembles: All students are eligible to audition for 3000 and 4000 level advanced ensembles. Some advanced music ensembles include music scholarships for members. Contact the Head of the Music Program to schedule an audition.

Foreign language requirement:

Students must complete ONE of the following options to fulfill their foreign language requirement:

(1) CSCD 2341  Sign Language I AND CSCD 2342  Sign Language II

(2) SPAN 1411  AND SPAN 1412  

(3) May also transfer in two semesters of the same foreign language. If you have transfer courses that should fulfill this requirement, please contact the Registrar’s Office if the requirement is not showing as complete.

(4) Music certification candidates may also add ESL, special education or bilingual certification to their degree plan.
