An overview of several aspects of Modern art from roughly 1860 to 1960 including major stylistic global movements and artists. A comparative approach to the vibrant contemporary arts outside the West which are just beginning to be included and considered in modern art. The aim is to develop an understanding and critical awareness of gender roles in art, symbolic significance, and artists’ contributions in modern art.
