Accelerated BAS-CISS to MS-Cybersecurity

Undergraduate students may earn credit toward the Master of Science in Cybersecurity (MS-Cybersecurity) degree while completing a Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) degree in Computer Information Systems and Security (CISS) through the CISS Accelerated Bachelor’s to Master’s (ABM) degree program. Students accepted into the CISS ABM program will be eligible to take two courses (six credit hours) from the list of MS-Cybersecurity courses below concurrently with their undergraduate courses. These two courses will count toward both the MS-Cybersecurity degree and the advanced CISS-related course requirement in the undergraduate CISS degree. The graduate courses also allow undergraduate students to build specific career-oriented focus areas that expand on advanced undergraduate course work.

Students in the CISS Accelerated Bachelor-to-Master (ABM) degree program must adhere to the following program restrictions, admission requirements, and deadlines:

Restrictions

  1. Maximum number of master’s level courses that can be taken: 2
  2. Courses that must be taken prior to taking any graduate courses:

    ENGL 1314  Composition II

    MATH 1304  College Algebra

CISS 1310   Introduction to Information and Computer Technology

CISS 1341   Introduction of Computer Hardware

    CISS 1342    Operating Systems

    CISS 2350   Networking Technology

    CISS 2410   Computer Programming I

    CISS 2411   Computer Programming II

CISS 3330   Database Analysis and Design

CISS 3357   Cloud Computing

Graduate courses that may be taken by ABM students*:

CISS 8302* Database Management Systems

CISS 8304* Networking and Cloud Computing

CISS 8305* Hardware and Software Platforms

CISS 8306* Basic Scripting and Programming (substitutes for CISS 4321 )

CISS 8321 Cybersecurity Principles (substitutes for CISS 3360 )

CISS 8322 Cybersecurity Planning and Management (substitutes for CISS 3362 , prerequisite is CISS 8321 or CISS 3360  with C- or better)

*Note: CISS 8302, CISS 8304, CISS 8305, and CISS 8306 do not count toward the undergraduate Cyber Security Certificate.

  1. Students may take no more than 3 credit hours of graduate courses per semester.
  2. Students must be concurrently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours of undergraduate courses.
  3. Students must receive a B- or better in graduate courses in order for the class to count toward a master’s degree. (Courses with a grade lower than B- will need to be repeated in the master’s program.)
  4. Students must receive a grade of C- or better for graduate courses to count toward the undergraduate major.

Admission Requirements

  1. Current OLLU student
  2. Overall GPA: 3.0 at time of application, prior to enrolling in first graduate course, and in semesters in which enrolled in graduate courses while an undergraduate student
  3. GPA in major: 3.0 at time of application, prior to enrolling in first graduate course, and in semesters in which enrolled in graduate courses while an undergraduate student
  4. At time of application, completed 75 or more credit hours that apply to a BAS in CISS undergraduate degree with grades of C- or higher in all major requirements
  5. Prior to enrolling in first graduate course, completed 90 or more credit hours that apply to the CISS undergraduate degree with grades of C- or higher in all major requirements completed
  6. Two faculty endorsements, submitted by:
    1. Student’s faculty advisor
    2. Another full-time faculty member in the ABM discipline

Deadlines

  • To begin taking graduate courses in summer or fall semesters: February 1
  • To begin taking graduate courses in the spring semester: September 1

Since students must transfer technical field courses for the BAS degree, it is likely that additional credit hours will also be transferred. The courses that are most likely to have been earned at another institution are listed in Years One and Two below. Actual course sequences will vary, depending on courses transferred.
