Students have three options for their required Senior Capstone:

(1) MUSI 4300 AND MUSI 4118: Project with paper (10 page minimum) and public presentation. Please note that the project proposal must be approved by a panel of music faculty for permission to select this capstone option.

(2) MUSI 4300 AND MUSI 4118: Pure research paper (25 page minimum) with public presentation. Please note that the research proposal must be approved by a panel of music faculty for permission to select this capstone option.

(3) MUSI 4212 AND MUSI 4118: Senior Recital (45 minutes of music minimum) with paper (10 page minimum) and public presentation. Please note that an audition before a panel of music faculty is required for permission to select this capstone option.

* Students are strongly encouraged to create their own plan of study, but focus on a specific area of their choice. This is often done in combination with another major, a minor, and/or in consultation with their advisor.

Music Major Scholarships: Students intending to apply for Music Scholarships must audition prior to July 15. Contact the Head of the Music Program to schedule an audition.

Course Exemptions: First semester music majors may apply to be placed out of the following required courses by examination: MUSI 1220 Music Fundamentals, MUSI 1218 Introduction to Piano. Contact the Head of the Music Program to request a placement examination.

Advanced Ensembles: All students are eligible to audition for 3000 and 4000 level advanced ensembles. Some advanced music ensembles include music scholarships for members. Contact the Head of the Music Program to schedule an audition.

MUSI 2331   Music Appreciation

SPAN 1411  and SPAN 1412 , or CSCD 2341  and CSCD 2342  or any two semesters of the same foreign language
